At The Willink, our Science Department inspires curiosity, develops critical thinking, and equips students with the knowledge and skills to explore the world around them. From Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5, our curriculum is designed to challenge and engage every learner, combining practical investigations, problem-solving, and real-world applications. Across all key stages, we aim to make science exciting, accessible, and relevant, nurturing the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem-solvers.

Key Stage 4 (GCSE) - Years 10 and 11

A balanced science course is taken by all students - one that is made up of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in equal amounts. Most students will take the AQA Combined Science (Trilogy)GCSEs. Since this is a Double Science GCSE, pupil results are awarded as double grades using the new numbering system (ie 9,9 being the highest grade, followed by 9,8 then 8,8 etc.)

In addition to the 12 periods a fortnight in which all students study for their Double Science GCSEs, students can opt to study Science for an additional 6 periods per fortnight. These extra periods would be two each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons and would lead to pupils achieving 3 separate science GCSEs. This route is commonly referred to as 'Triple Science'.

Key Stage 5 (AS / A Level) - Years 12 and 13

We offer the following courses in our Sixth Form:

We offer A and AS levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (OCR). We also have a Social Science Department that offers AS and A levels in Sociology AQA, Psychology AQA and a Diploma in Criminology Eduquas.
